The Cake and the Great. Big. Bummer.

My Mother has achieved the ultimate in cake decorating. She was very proud of herself so I thought I'd share. It's round. It even tasted good.

At Disney Nana bought the kids a little, teeny, tiny, so cute digital camera. They were having so much fun taking pictures and I could hardly wait to get home and see things from their perspectives. But alas, the damn Disney camera's delete button is not tucked away. It is placed brazenly on the back with no "safety". All of their photos were erased when the camera got packed away in the suitcase. Great. Big. Bummer.

We're Back-Thank God!

Well, we are back. The kids had a ball, but going to Disney World is pretty close to a trip to hell. Really. Not that I have actually been to hell(ok maybe once at my mother-in-laws) but my imaginings of hell are darn close to Disney. The weather was perfect and the company was great, however: it doesn't matter how fair the weather is or how easy the company is when you spend hour after hour after hour standing in line, waiting for buses, getting run over by strollers and getting cut in front of and pushed out of the way. I have been to Disney World before, but don't ever remember it being so crowded. I will probably never go there again. I tried to keep a cheery attitude but it was hard. The kids did have fun so it wasn't a total loss. Enjoy some of our photos:

The airport scene-Houston HobbyMagic Kingdom-can you feel the joy?The Dinosaur Ride-the kid in the back row hiding his face is one of mine the one in the middle row huddled up to the lady next to him is another one of mine. This picture is from about the 4th time we rode this thing!

Nessie Attacks!

Every day we'd wind up with rolls of stickers-the game was to tag someone with the stickers without them noticing-Papa is not very observant.

Well, isn't yours?

Can you believe this?

A couple of my kids got cameras and took lots of pics at Disney. I will be posting any of those that turned out soon.

Look What I Got From My Swap-bot Partner

Several months ago I was looking around in cyber-space and found a site called swap-bot http://www.swap-bot.com/ I looked at it for a while and finally decided to try it. I got in on a shabby chic matchbox exchange. I had so much fun making my little box! I am really not a creator of fabulous paper items, but I thought what the heck and did one. It's amazing all the things one can fit in a small matchbox. I made and mailed mine off as soon as my partner was assigned to me. I thought it wasn't too bad for a first-timer.

Some of the beads fell off, but I thought that just added to the shabby chic flavor.

I waited and waited and waited for what seemed like forever to receive mine. (It was mailed within the guidelines of the swap-my partner was perfect, I was just impatient to get my little package of pretty!) It finally showed up today and what a sweet surprise! It was full of pretty little things. Lucky me! I don't know what I'll do with any of it. I will probably just put everything back in the box and bring it out when I need a little dose of pretty.
She even included a beautiful handmade card!
Thank you LauraLaughs! I really enjoyed your handiwork!

Drive-In

We took our kids + 1 to the drive-in Saturday. It was really stinkin' cold-around 50 degrees when we got there and it dropped all the way to 47 by the time we left. Everyone was snuggled up with their blankets and pillows and I began to think a Suburban was no where near big enough. I was holding my breath waiting for the "he breathed on me", "she stink-eyed me" drama to begin. We had a ball though. My parents used to take me to the drive-in and I remember wearing my jammies. My kids would rather be shaved bald than leave the house in their jammies, but I always thought that was fun!

I don't know what it is about nose pickin' that is so hilarious, but they think it is. They look like crazy children to me.

We saw I Am Legend and August Rush. Legend was fair-I was on the edge of my seat a couple of times, but it could have been MORE. August Rush was way too sappy for me. If you like cheesey and cornball then this movie is for you. Well, my girl is here with me as I am blogging and she said she loved it.

Fridays Haul

Today is an absolutely ugly, miserable day. It is cold, damp and foggy-however-the sun is always shining in our hearts on our shopping Fridays! (That is such a cornball expression, but heck it's true LOL) I am exceptionally lucky that I have found 2 friends with the same passion for junque expeditions that I have!

My birthday is soon and I was treated to sweet presents and a fabulous lunch. I got a stack of beautiful notecards with envelopes and 2 sweet little jeweled picture frames. I can't wait till my attic space is finished-these items will be perfect for it!

Julia, Me, Tamaria

See Julia's Junket for pictures of the fabulous food!

This is todays haul. Not an exceptionally good one but fun anyway. 3 books, 3 tops, 1 vintage dress (will look fab on my mannequin) 2 vintage tablecloths, 1 vintage scarf, and 1 soft pink blanket. My favorite is the leopard print hotwater bottle for my daughter-she will LOVE it! Total for everything about $14.

Goodbye to another Friday morning~sigh~

Spartans, Wildlife and Awards

My boys dream of being soldiers. They spend hours playing army and I discovered this scene in the front yard last week. It just made me think "WE ARE SPARTAAAAAAAANS!" There is nothing like an old-fashioned wooden sword fight.

My kids keep insisting that I take pictures of every creature they find in the yard so I thought I'd share.

We recently attended our first ever sports banquet. The girl cheered and the boy played football for a Christian football league. They had a ball. If soldiering doesn't work out for him the NFL is next on his list of jobs.

Goodnight Sweetheart

My youngest son was very upset with me last night at bedtime. He said he was running away to Nana's house and taking Daddy with him...I almost started packing for them *grin*. He said he would probably feel better if Sophie could sleep with him-and so it was.

The Attic

Our house is about 120 years old. We have the coolest attic ever. My husband has been working up there and we are hoping to have it all together by this time next year. I am so excited just at the thought of having my own space up there-craft room, sewing room, studio whatever-it will be mine, mine, mine, mine, mine! I will paint my little corner of the attic pink and white and no one will enter without first knocking on the curtain. It will always be neat and organized and I will be inspired just by walking near the entrance. It will be so infused with estrogen, men will not dare come near. Ahhh, to dream. This is my corner-it's bigger than it looks.

The kids want to put a stage in this space. We have a tower-this will be left open to look up in to. The old wood and nails are very cool.
This will be the guest room.

Awesome space to dream in.

Sophie sends her love.

The Escape

This past week my friend Julia and I escaped for 4 days to my mom's house. My mom lives in the city (Houston) and her house is always clean and very comfortable. It is quite a treat-especially for us stay-at-mom's who spend hours each day spinning our wheels in the pursuit of order and cleanness! We visited and literally shopped till we dropped! I am done Christmas shopping and what's even better is I was able to just leave the gifts with my mom for wrapping! Being an only child definitely has it's benefits *grin*

We found a pretty little room in an antique store that had a couch and was beautifully decorated. We just had to take a minute and snap some pics. This is me and my mom.

This is me and Julia. God has blessed me with a wonderful mother and a wonderful friend.

We each bought several pairs of shoes-we found an awesome deal on boots at Bass-I got brown, she got red.

We are so ready for those horrible south Texas blizzards! LOL As it is about 80 degrees this Sunday afternoon it is hard to believe it ever gets cold anywhere. Having lived in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Pennsylvania I do remember cold December days and am counting my blessings as I sit here with my doors and windows wide open and the ceiling fans humming along on high speed.

The Sale and The Fun

This weekend was our sale. It was our flea market/crap boutique extravaganza! We unloaded a lot of yard sale stuff and actually did pretty good on our Shabby Chic stuff too. It is fun to make money on our addiction to yard sale shopping, but the best part is spending the day with friends.
You just never know what you'll find in your friends yard sale pile.I also never would have guessed my sweet friend was so cruel to small animals. She teased these bees with her fake flowers.

My daughter spent the day with the ladies at the sale. Our shabby chic palace is usually Julia's beauty shop so what's a girl to do besides hair. All she really needed was a willing participant. Leave it to Grandma to go along with the fun! (OK, this is not my daughters Grandma, but she IS somebodies Grandma). She was such a good sport! This is only one of the styles experimented with that day. If you'll notice the mirror, we also did a little math. After the sale we were picking up our signs-yes we actually do that! We pulled into the parking lot of a restaurant to pick one up and saw a chicken under a truck. At first it looked like a one-legged chicken so I had to take a picture. It turned out to have 2 legs afterall, but how did it get there? Was it just the lucky one? Did someone leave the restaurants back door open and it ran out to safety? Really, what was a chicken doing in a parking lot of a restaurant next to the interstate?

The sale is over. It's a big bummer. I can hardly wait for the next one in March!~
